Lizzie's Corner: 2015

Hello everyone!

So it was my boyfriend's year 13 prom last week so I thought why not share some photos and my outfit? I originally was going to wear a Missguided halter neck dress but after sports day I was left looking like a lobster on my back and shoulders, which explains why I switched to this dress!

My dress is Ted Baker, shoes are from French Connection and earrings are from New Look!

Hello everyone!

Sorry that it's been a million years since I last blogged, I've just been super busy! I promise I'll pick up he pace after my exams are over.

So the other day I picked up this gorgeous matte lippy from MUA called Fawn Fancy.
I've gotta be honest, I didn't expect that much for £1 as I've never really been that impressed by MUA before, but I absolutely love it. I've had matte lippies from MAC before but I've never been able to get on with he formula as its so difficult to apply and makes your lips look dry and crusty. Whereas this formula is creamy and easy to apply but still has a fab matte finish!

Next time you're in super drug, definitely pick up one of these babies!
Have you tried an MUA lipstick?

Hello everyone!

I've been noticing that my hair has been really dry recently so I decided to pick up a hair mask in Boots. I didn't do any prior research so I basically just went on packaging and price. I ended up with this L'oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Mask Balm (£5.09). L'oreal actually do a bunch of these masks for all different hair types but this one is meant to be the most nourishing.

I've used it a handful of times on my hair (focussing on the ends) and I've hardly even made a dent in the product as there is just sooo much!! I think the value is amazing for what you get out of this product.

I've been recieving a tonne of compliments on the shininess of my hair lately and I put it all down to this baby. It has rid my hair of its awful dryness and make it gorgeously silky. I have no complaints about this product - it even SMELLS amazing!!

Have you tried this?

Hello Everyone!
Every single month I mean to write a favourites post but the end of the month just rolls by and by the time I remember to write one we're already half way through the next month. But FINALLY  I have actually managed to write a post on time!

My first favourite is Benefit's Boi Ing Concealer (which I wrote a review on earlier this month). I have never actually had a concealer I genuinely loved until I picked up this one. I've been through a couple different MAC concealers, Soap and Glory, everyone's favourite drugstore Collection concealer yet nothing seemed to actually work for me. I am so so happy I've finally got a decent concealer and I would definitely recommend this! I won't go into too much detail but if you're interested you can read my review here

My second favourite is actually a tester I got free at a beauty evening at my local department store. This is Clarins Hydraquench Cream. I am such a sucker for Clarins skincare as it's always so amazing, but ever so expensive. The actual size of this cream retails at £35 so I don't think I'll be getting it anytime soon (although I have put it on my birthday list!).

My next favourite I have also already written a post on this month (which you can view here). I picked this up on a blog sale for £8 rather than the usual £15. A couple sprays every day and my makeup will last for absolute ages! I've tried a few drugstore dupes of this product that have never been much good, I will definitely be repurchasing this - if it ever runs out!

My third favourite I only got about a week ago so this is kind of a cheat favourite, but still. This is Nivea's 3 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water. I'm insanely late on the Micellar Water bandwagon as I have always thought my makeup wipes did enough for my skin, but man I was wrong. This water makes my skin feel sooo good and it removes makeup so much better than any wipes ever have in my experience. And even better it's half price in Wilkos at only £2!

What have you been loving this month?

Hello Everyone!
So last weekend I went to London to stay with my cousin. So why not share the snaps with you?

What have you been up to lately?

Hello Everyone!
So I was in London for the weekend and this is actually the only thing I bought (can you believe it?!). I went to Harrods like any typical tourist would, there are obviously loads of different makeup brands there but I stuck to what I know and perused the MAC counter. I didn't really need anything while I was there - so why not pick up an everyday shade of lipstick? That's always useful. This is actually my first ever Satin finish lippy as I tend to go for Matte or Cremesheen but I think it is my favourite Finish so far. I love how it gives the great colour pay off yet still looks super natural and not too much. The colour 'Brave' is actually practically identical to the shade 'Modesty' which is a cremesheen, but I think I will be getting more use out of Brave as it's much more wearable whereas Modesty is much more dramatic.

As you can see from the image it's just a gorgeous neutral brown-ish pink.

Have you tried 'Brave'? What do you think?

Hello Everyone!
You might've seen in one of my recent posts I mentioned I picked up Benefit's Boi-Ing Concealer. As a 12 year old girl, I lusted after this concealer because one of my friends claimed she had it and I was sooo jealous. But finally after years of waiting 16 year old me has finally picked it up!

I've got to be honest, I wasn't expecting much with this concealer. I picked it up on a whim when I was in one of those 'I must buy something' moods (I get these too often...) for £17.50 so not too pricey for a high end product. But I was actually pleasantly surprised!

This concealer has INCREDIBLE coverage. It hid my dark circles and concealed my spots perfectly!! I know that this is what a concealer is for - but no concealer I've tried has ever done it so well.

Left shows my undereye circles before BOI-ING and right shows them using BOI-ING.

This concealer isn't as creamy as you'd expect it to be, it's actually quite drying. So for those of you with dry skin, please use a nice moisturiser prior to application or your face might appear a tad flaky.

I've only used this product a handful of times so far but I am obsessed with it already. This is definitely one I recommend!

What concealers do you recommend?

Hello Everyone!
I'm so used to showing you all the products that I love, it seems strange to show you the ones I wasn't too big a fan of.

Benefit Porefessional
This product is renowned by beauty bloggers the world over, so of course I had to pick it up following the amazing reviews it recieved. Sadly, I found it does absolutely nothing for me. I've had this product for over a year and I rarely ever wear it now as I know that it just doesn't add anything to my face of makeup. It does not cover the pores on my nose at all, or smoothen out my bumpy areas. For £24.50 I would definitely not be repurchasing this.

Rimmel Kate Lipstick in 04

This product is a gorgeous deep purple and was only £2.99 when I purchased it so I thought hey - why not? But let's just say this lippy does not suit me at all. In fact I think I look soooo stupid when I wear this!! I've never even worn it out of the house I think I look so silly. I just can't pull this off at all. Oh well, it was only £2.99...

Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner

This is another product that recieves rave reviews. I picked it up on a whim one day but never tried it out until after I heard Zoella mention how great it was in a video. It's really easy to apply, I'll give it that. But this liner doesn't come out black black. It's more of a dark grey and throughout the day it fades into an even darker grey before eventually wearing off. Insane!! Love the application, but would appreciate the formula being sorted out.

Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer Stick

Another Soap and Glory product, oops... I was looking for a new concealer the other day in Boots post my MAC baby running out and decided to go for this concealer stick for £5.99. It is lovely and creamy, but this creaminess just leads to it appearing cakey - not to mention it doesn't stay on and just slides straight off your face throughout the day! Wearbility is starting to sound like a big Soap and Glory problem!

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think?

Hello everyone!
Lighting is a bit tricky on nail varnish posts but I tried my best!

I feel like I haven't blogged in a million years since I've been feeling pretty stressed out, but I've had a massive clear out tonight and my head is feeling a bit clearer.

I picked up this polish on a whim for £2.99 in Boots as I fancied a new colour, I would've preferred it as a Gelly hi shine one (my faves) but I was already too in love with this shade.

It definitely needs two coats as after one it is a bit pinky, but two gives it that classy deep red look. Perfect!

Let me know what you think,

Hello everyone!
So I mentioned in my recent makeup haul that I'd snapped up MAC Fix+ in a Twitter sale for only £8 so I was over the moon with that bargain as its regularly £15.50!

I use 3-4 sprays after I've applied my entire face of makeup. It makes me feel insanely refreshed and it doesn't take too long to dry (thank God). This spray immediately makes my complexion look healthy and more dewey, nicely accentuating my face's natural highlights.

As for its usage as a fixing spray, my makeup was still perfect after 12 hours each time I'd used this product.

As you can tell from the review, I find it hard to fault this spray in any way and will definitely be repurchasing this at full price!

What do you think of MAC Fix+?

Hello everyone!
So today I went to Skegness with my boyfriend and picked up these two gorgeous Kate Moss lipsticks. I also came home to find the Fix+ (only used once) I'd snapped up in a blog sale for only £8 had arrived! I'm yet to try out the Fix+ but here's my first impressions of the lippies...

Shade 04 is this vampy deep purple that reminds me of MAC's Heroine. The annoying thing is that I don't have a matching liner and this is a shade that tends to bleed so I doubt I'll be wearing it much until I've found one!

Shade 101 is this beautiful pink that compliments my skin so well. It's just such a staple colour and the best part is that it's also matte (!!) and has a gorgeous colour pay off along with wearability.

Hello Everyone!
When I was in Meadowhall the other day I told myself I wouldn't buy anything from Lush as products are about a fiver a pop and just last one bath, but my boyfriend wanted to go in and then I just couldn't resist Unicorn Horn!

Unicorn Horn is part of Lush's 2015 Valentines Day Collection and retails at £3.25. I thought the price was pretty good for a bubble bar as these babies actually last 2-3 baths depending how much you use.

I was drawn to this bubble bar by the gorgeous pastel colours and shimmers all over it, although upon reading others' reviews I've found out it was meant to have little stars in it - which mine sadly didnt. This was actually the last one on the pile so it was probably the worst looking one out of the batch!

There's no strong scent about 'Unicorn Horn' when you smell it as a bar or in your bath, so it's perfect for those who don't want something too overpowering. I've found in the past just storing Lush products in the bathroom cupboards have stunk up the entire corridor!

I couldn't get a really good photo out of pure fear of dropping my camera in the bath, but the water turned pinky purpley (very precise colour term, I know). It created a fair few bubbles too, but they were hiding down the other end of the bath in this photo!

Overall, I do really like this bubble bar and I would definitely repurchase it!

Have you tried any of the 2015 Valentines Collection?

Hello Everyone!
So the other day I was on the MAC website ordering a back up bottle of my usual Studio Fix Foundation, when I realised I had to spend £9 more to get free delivery. Obviously, nothing in MAC is actually £9, so I thought I'd splurge £13 on a new eyeshadow.

I'd say eyeshadow is the thing I'm most sparse on, having one almost used up neutral palette. I decided to go with 'woodwinked' as I liked the name and I'm sure I've seen blog posts about this before. It's a warm coppery brown that looks so natural on the eye, I thought this would be more of a going out shadow but it actually works really well as a daytime all over the lid number. So far I've really enjoyed this shadow and think it will last me practically forever!

I'm hoping to pick up some more 'night out' kind of colours from MAC next time - so let me know in the comments or on Twitter @thatlizziegirl if you have any recommendations!

What do you think of Woodwinked?

Hello Everyone!

So the other day I unexpectedly ran out of my usual MAC Mineralize Concealer, the packaging gave me no warning as it fooled me into thinking it was practically full though it was only dried bits around the sides (gross). I decided I don't want to repurchase the Mineralize Concealer as it was just not enough coverage for me, I'm not one to fork out £16 on an average concealer. So instead I popped into Boots and picked up this baby for £6.

I like the idea of this concealer, a stick that you can twist up to get more product. Whether the entire stick contains product, I do not know. The pencil end is a bit chubby so it's not so great for small application, that's where I need to bring in a concealer brush, but otherwise it's great for larger areas such as my forehead and under my eyes.

When I used the tester in the shop, I looved the creamy texture and how it melted onto my hand. But now I've started using it I'm not the biggest fan. The creaminess does make it super blendable, but I feel it just looks cakey on my face. I do like this for under my eyes, but it makes my dry spots such as my chin and around my nose look flaky and disgusting.

Overall, I do like this concealer for under eyes but definitely not all over my face as it's far too cakey for me. I most likely will not repurchase this product.

Have you got this concealer? What do you think?

Hello Everyone!
So lately I've been so bored of my hair and fancying a change. I've been wanting to go all blonde but I decided I'd settle for the midpoint - ombré.
After reading endless reviews, I picked up this Bleach London DIY Dip Dye kit (£7) from Boots!
First off you have to mix the bleaching powder sachets with the developing lotion in the little tub they give you, I'd definitely recommend buying a bigger tub as this one definitely isn't big enough for the amount of product made.

I rubbed the 'blending lotion' all over where I was going to dye in order to create a more blended effect. I can't really say if this did anything because I haven't tried it without, but I don't feel that there are any super harsh lines.

Then I set to applying the dye. You have to work quickly in order to keep the bleaching even, which is a bit of a challenge!

I only left the bleach on for 20 minutes as I've never used bleach before and was weary of how my hair would react. My hair hasn't gone super blonde (I didn't expect it to) but instead more of a natural auburn. I'm really happy with how this turned out, although my hair feels so dry and disgusting at th e minute, I'm very glad they give you their Reincarnation Mask to help it heal!

What do you think?
